Body Moves
What I’ve learned
Intensively trained in several sports, from childhood to adolescence.
Adult, went deep into Yoga.
-
i was in a class near Paris for 8 years, where the time was divided between regular studies and music/sports
-
trained to become a professional classical dancer (10 years) and ice-skater (5 years)
-
Pilates training
-
Sivananda Yoga teacher training (TTC) in France with direct disciples of Sivananda. I then chose to volunteer for a month in the ashram (karma yoga). My role was given by the swamis (monks and nuns in the indian tradition): i had to give yoga classes everyday to big groups of people in french and english.
-
since I was 3 years old, i was into intense practices of sports (trapeze 2 years, 10 years classical dance, 5 years of intense ice-skating training until i broke badly a leg before becoming professional. I also did lots of ski, snowboard, gymnastic, swimming, as hobbies.
-
continued to dance most of my life, different styles.
-
Yoga practice since 25 years now. From the very meditative approach, to the more physical and holistic approaches. All my teacher were with incredibly advanced and studied directly with masters like Iyengar and Sivananda.
-
born handicapped, with an important deformation on the right leg. I wasn’t supposed to walk… I had to have daily therapy for 4 years, each morning, to reshape my leg.
-
I keep a leg discrepancy of 2,5 cm (bones of my right leg shorter)
-
this smaller and weaker leg caused me plenty of back problems and serious injuries all my adulthood. Couldn’t walk for 2 years at my 27 years old. My hips were fractured, about to break, and my sciatic nerve was extremely inflamed. I have scoliosis and other spine problems.
-
i choose to avoid all surgeries (hips replacement, cut of sciatic nerve…) and refuse to believe the predictions of Parisian best surgeons of me ending in a wheelchair despite all surgeries proposed…
I decided one day to not do anything of their suggestions and trust my strong gut feeling that I’ll find alternatives that would heal me better.
-Note: this is Not an advice, as it was risky. It is just a testimonial of my personal choice- -
my low back and pelvis need constant care, due to the leg discrepancy. I learned how to take care of it with many different specific postures, exercises and tools.
